Can I use masking tape to help me create easy nail designs?
Although easy nail designs are simple in nature, keeping a steady hand through the process can be quite a feat. After all, you are working on a rather small canvas and your fingers are bigger than the art tools you are using. Masking tape is a great way to create various lines, French tips and v-shapes for your easy nail designs.
The French nail manicure
The French nail manicure is one of those easy nail designs that still require a smooth, effortless touch. Are you looking for a way to create a French nail manicure without worrying about crooked lines? Taking your masking tape, cut out the design you want. In this case, it would be a semi-circle. Place the cut out somewhere where you will have access to it later. Paint your nails with a clear basecoat. Taking your semi-circle cut out, place it just below your nail tip. In other words, place the semi-circle right where the white part of your nail meets the clear part of your nail. Now paint the tops of your nails white. The masking tape will ensure that you do not “color outside the lines”. You can also use this technique with v-shape easy nail designs.
All sorts of lines
Drawing a straight line is difficult to do freehand. If your easy nail designs consist of horizontal, vertical or diagonal lines, try using making tape. Cut out various size lines and place them to the side for later use. Then apply a base color. The base color will actually end up being the color of your lines. For example, if you want red lines, then use a red base coat. It sounds backwards, but you will find out why in a moment. Let polish dry and then go to town placing your masking tape cut outs on your nails. You may choose diagonal for a candy cane effect or vertical for a candy striper effect. Once you place the tape on your nails, paint over your entire nail with another color. This will be the background color for your easy nail designs. Going with the previous example, you may want your red diagonal lines to show up on a black background. So, paint your nails black. The final step is to let your nails dry and then remove all the masking tape from your nails. Finish with a clear, top coat. Who knew professional looking nail designs could be this easy!
